Following a decision to put the project out to tender it has now been confirmed that the first 2.8 km tranche Greenway project in Huercal-Overa will go ahead during the last quarter of the year.
With an estimated budget of 100,000 euros the route will run along the old railway line from the A-7 to the first metal bridge, just behind the railway station. The budget was approved by the City Council last June.
On completion the Greenway will have eight kilometers of track. It will join with the three that already exist in the province, the Greenway Olula del Rio, the stretch between Zurgena and Huércal-Overa and the Almanzora Lucainena route.
The one outstanding action required prior to the Greenway being put to tender is the approval of to allow the use of the railway. Once the agreement is signed, companies will be invited to submit bids.
The mayor, Domingo Fernandez said it is very important to such infrastructure in the town that is accessible to all and that improve the standing of Huércal-Overa the Levant.
The Greenway Overa will also be promoted through the Internet through the Pathways website on Green Spain. Council officials will also create profiles on Facebook, Twitter and their own Ayuntamiento website.
